About the wine
This is a Merlot-dominated claret, with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. In comparison to the Cabernet-heavy blends elsewhere in Bordeaux, this means it's remarkably smooth, rounded and supple. Try it with roast beef.
About the producer
Château Timberlay can trace its history back to the 14th century. It was destroyed in the French revolution but was rebuilt with a fierce loyalty to its traditional methods. The winemaking team pick the grapes by hand and carry out a strict grape selection process. As a result, the estate boasts prestigious Bordeaux Supérieur status.
About the region
Bordeaux is divided by the Gironde estuary. Either side of the river is the Left and Right Bank. This is made on the Right Bank, where Merlot does best in clay- limestone soils. Merlot ripens early, and this means that it thrives in this conditions.
