DOMAINE CAZES

Castell d’Agly Maury Sec

“I'm fascinated by biodynamic winemaking. It's entirely organic, follows the lunar cycle and must abide by a strict series of principles. This is a fantastic introduction made by the leading biodynamic producer in the south of France”

Wine Information

About the wine

This is made from very old Grenache vines, which produce deeply concentrated grapes. With all concentration on preserving fruit quality, every bunch is hand-picked, and rigorous grape selection is carried out to ensure you taste a beautifully silky red.

About the producer

Domaine Cazes is long-established in Roussillon. It was bought by Jean Batlle in 1999. His son, Nicolas, is now the fifth generation in a line of fantastic Maury winemakers, and what he creates is some of the most sought-after wine in the region.

About the region

Schist soils (a distinctive soil type concentrated with dense rock), nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, are key at Domaine Cazes. In these, vines push their roots through the black slate in search of water. This stresses the vines and means very good news for the grapes - all efforts are focussed on ripening, and they develop a wonderful minerality at the same time.
