GABRIEL MEFFRE

Rasteau

“The Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre blend (known as GSM for short) is one of the most famous in France. This full-bodied concoction has made its way to Spain, Australia and America as a result. This is a great example of what it's like in its birthplace, the Southern Rhône”

Wine Information

About the wine

There's a method to the blend: Grenache brings body and red-fruit flavours. Syrah (also known as Shiraz) adds tannin and peppery hints. Mourvèdre brings complexity in the form of black-fruit notes. Try it with a tomato-based pasta or red meats.

About the producer

The Gabriel Meffre winery began in 1936 in Gigondas. Today, it's still in the family and is one of the most respected producers in the Southern Rhône. Head winemaker is Véronique Torcolacci who shunned a teaching career to make great wine. She has won over a hundred medals in the art since.

About the region

Rasteau is northeast of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It was formerly under the more generic Côtes du Rhône Villages umbrella. But, thanks to the determination of exceptional growers and winemakers, it's now under its own AOC status. Due to its warm climate, which is ideal for grape ripening, it's a haven of hedonistic reds.
