About the wine
Sangiovese makes up the majority of the grapes in this Chianti, bringing a distinctive power, richness, structure and notes of sour cherry to the wine. The remaining grapes are made up of local varieties to smoothen the texture and add a hint of freshness.
About the producer
Castelsina was formed in 1971 by a small group of local Tuscan winemakers. Today, they keep the tradition alive using brilliant modern facilities. Their winemakers are Maurizio Castelli – a consultant oenologist for some of the most respected Italian wineries – and Mery Ferrara who has impressive national and international experience.
About the region
Tuscany is known for its rolling hills, long summers with plenty of sunshine and cool Mediterranean climate. This is perfect for the thin-skinned Sangiovese grape which, if burnt in sunshine, can develop an unpleasant bitter flavour.
