NICOSIA

Nerello Mascalese

“Nerello Mascalese is a rare delight and a gem in the crown of Sicily. It’s almost exclusive to Mount Etna – Europe’s most active volcano – making it a remarkably unique wine.”

Wine Information

About the wine

The classic blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio is matured for a brief time in French oak which introduces a touch of sweet spice to the red fruit flavour, while the ancient volcanic soils give the wine an elegant backbone of minerality.

About the producer

Cantine Nicosia has a wonderfully rich history of winemaking in Sicily, showcasing traditional wine styles made with an environmentally sustainable ethos. Maria Carella is the head winemaker and a fantastic innovator, having studied enology and viticulture before spending two years at another renowned Italian winery.

About the region

For five generations the Nicosia family has been making wine on the warmer southern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. The unique influence of ancient volcanic soils that the vines grow in can be detected in the clarity of the wine.
