Wine Information
About the wine
This wine is predominantly made up of Nerello Mascalese (almost exclusive to Mount Etna), with a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio grapes. It’s aged for 14 months in both custom cement vats and French oak barrels. This introduces a touch of sweet spice to the red fruit flavour, while the ancient volcanic soils give the wine an elegant backbone of minerality.
About the producer
Since 1851, the Rallo family have been crafting high-quality wines that demonstrate the impressive potential of Sicily and its diverse array of indigenous grapes. The Donnafugata label took off in 1983 and has kept environmental sustainability at the forefront of its winemaking ever since.
About the region
This wine is made on the slopes of Europe’s most active volcano, Mount Etna. The high altitudes temper the climate to give the grapes a luxuriously long growing season while the naturally volcanic soils invite unique mineral notes that you simply can’t find elsewhere.
