Il Borgo 'Vigna Madonnina'
“Gavi is one of the Piedmont region’s most exciting whites, made using the Cortese grape. It’s adored for its exquisite freshness and now rivals some of Italy’s other best known white wines such as Pinot Grigio and Soave, so it’s only fitting that it be included in a grand tour of Italian wines.”

About the wine
This bottle is a unique Riserva from a thriving biodynamic wildlife site. It is from a small production crafted from just a single vineyard – a sourcing technique that gives the most focused sense of a place. Each grape is hand- selected to choose only the finest, before they’re gently pressed and left in contact with lees (a natural byproduct of grape fermentation) for 6 months. Following this, it spends another 6 months in the bottle so once it reaches you, it’s textured and brimming with flavour.
About the producer
The Rossi Cairo family acquired the La Raia estate in southeast Piedmont in 2003 and embarked on a biodynamic project to transform it into a wonderfully balanced nature reserve. They combine traditional techniques – from grape selection and production – with cutting- edge, nature-friendly techniques to get the best out of the vines.
About the region
The La Madonnina vineyard of La Raia’s estate is situated on a south-east slope with excellent light exposure and ventilation. This allows the grapes to develop deep flavours and prevents them from suffering any diseases. In addition, the clay-rich soil here translates into delicate mineral notes that perfectly balance the wine’s rounded texture.
